Woman who kidnapped newborn nearly 20 years ago pleads guilty

Updated

A South Carolina woman pleaded guilty Monday to kidnapping a newborn girl — whom she raised as her daughter — from a Florida hospital nearly 20 years ago.

Gloria Williams, 52, is accused of abducting Kamiyah Mobley, now 19, from University Medical Center in Jacksonville on July 10, 1998.

She brought Mobley to Walterboro, S.C. where she raised her as Alexis Manigo.

Judge Marianne Aho asked Williams if she was entering the plea because she was guilty.

“Yes, ma’am,” Williams replied, adding she acted alone during the kidnapping.

After Mobley learned about her true identity, she reunited with her parents but has remained supportive of Williams.

Williams faces up to 22 years in prison when she’s sentenced in May.
