Top UConn professor and students take selfie with severed heads

A top University of Connecticut orthodontics professor and graduate dental school students took a selfie with two severed heads while at a Yale University event last year.

Dr. Flavio Uribe -- an assistant professor and orthodontics program director at UConn Health -- was one of the people in the photo.

Uribe told The Associated Press while he was showing students how to put screws in the heads of cadavers, “Somebody unfortunately took a photo.”

The incident that occurred at the 2017 DePuy Synthes Future Leaders Workshop at Yale, with Yale officials calling the episode “disturbing” and “inexcusable.”

Yale says it is improving oversight at event like this one to make sure ethical standards are met.

UConn Health’s chief communication officer said that “UConn Health was made aware of the matter at the time it happened and took appropriate internal steps.”
