GOP opponent slams Gillibrand for shifting gun control stance

A GOP candidate opposing Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand slammed the Democrat Sunday, calling her a self-promotor with shifting positions on gun control.

“When she was in the House, she was known as ‘Annie Oakley,’” Chele Chiavacci Farley told John Catsimatidis on his AM 970 radio show Sunday.

“And now in the Senate people laugh and they call her ‘Jane Fonda.’ That’s quite a change to the left.”

Gillibrand, from Brunswick in Rensselaer County, once had an “A” rating from the National Rifle Association. But she has become an outspoken critic of the NRA and the need for stricter gun laws.

Farley also criticized Gillibrand’s opposition to Trump.

“Kirsten Gillibrand’s greatest success is self-promotion, not accomplishments,” Farley added.

“She’s voted against more Trump nominees than any other senator and was the only one to vote against (Defense Secretary James) Mattis.”

Farley previously worked as a partner and managing director of Mistral Capital International, a New York City private equity firm specializing in the real estate and energy industries.

Gillibrand, who has served in the Senate since 2009, defended her voting record.

“Kirsten is proud of her record in the U.S. Senate fighting for New York families as hard as she fights for her own and looks forward to the opportunity of earning the privilege to continue serving New Yorkers for another term,” her spokesman Glen Caplin said in a statement.
