Teacher allegedly assaulted student who refused to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance

A Colorado middle school teacher is under investigation after allegedly assaulting a student that wouldn't stand for the National Anthem.

Karen Smith, a physical education teacher at Angevine Middle School in Lafayette, was placed on administrative leave pending on the outcome of the investigation, according to the Boulder Valley School District.

The school released a statement to parents saying they are working closely with the Lafayette Police Department.

They also asked people to respect Smith’s privacy.

The district told the Boulder Daily Camera its policy allows students to sit or stand during the pledge.

Smith had been teaching in the Boulder Valley School District for 20 years.

No charges have been filed in the case.
