Feds rescue 76 undocumented immigrants found in trailer in Texas
An American was arrested after trying to smuggle 76 undocumented immigrants —including 13 children — across a checkpoint in Texas Friday, federal officials said.
The immigrants from Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala were found in “good health” inside a tractor-trailer on Highway 83 near Laredo, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a press release.
The driver — whose identity wasn’t released — was questioned about his immigration status before he was arrested, CBP said.
The agency has previously reported about the attempted smuggling of undocumented immigrants to the United States in tractor-trailers.
