James Comey slams 'small people' on Twitter after Andrew McCabe's FBI departure

Former FBI Director James Comey tweeted support for FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who announced his plans to leave the bureau on Monday.

“Special Agent Andrew McCabe stood tall over the last 8 months, when small people were trying to tear down an institution we all depend on. He served with distinction for two decades. I wish Andy well. I also wish continued strength for the rest of the FBI. America needs you,” Comey wrote on Twitter.

McCabe’s departure was preceded by ongoing attacks from President Trump, who made McCabe a repeated target in his efforts to discredit the FBI and criticize its handling of the investigation into his campaign team’s alleged collusion with Russia, notes CNN.

Comey, who was fired from his post in May, has made comments on the president’s words and actions before, but generally in a less direct manner and often using historical quotes and literary passages.

His recent tweets include, “‘Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.’ – Thomas Jefferson, Jan. 28, 1786,” and, “‘The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.’ – Winston Churchill.”
