Frozen chunk of human waste falls from plane, lands in northern India

Many residents of Fazilpur Badli village in northern India were mystified by a frozen mass that fell from the sky on Saturday, reports the BBC.

While a number were reportedly hopeful it had come from space, officials are rather certain the nearly 30-pound icy chunk is human waste that fell from a plane, according to the Daily Mail.

While airlines are forbidden from doing that sort of thing intentionally, the tanks that hold it sometime leak to the outside of the plane.

Given the incredibly low temperatures encountered at cruising altitude, the excrement freezes and can end up breaking away from the aircraft and landing on the ground.

Thankfully, that doesn’t happen often.

“Britain’s Civil Aviation Authority, for example, has said that around 25 falls…are reported every year from the 2.5 million flights a year over UK airspace,” notes the BBC.
