Barry Lubin, Grandma the clown, resigns for sexual misconduct

The man behind Grandma the clown resigned Tuesday after being accused of sexual misconduct.

Barry Lubin admitted to pressuring then-16-year-old Zoe Dunne into posing for pornographic photos in 2004 after she leveled her accusations against him to Big Apple Circus, according to the New York Times.

“The allegations are true,” Lubin, 65, said in a statement through his lawyer.

“What I did was wrong, and I take full responsibility for my actions.”

Dunne, now 29, told the Times that Lubin hired her in 2004, then presented her with a side job modeling for his personal photography business.

At his trailer, Dunne claims that Lubin dressed her in a bathing suit and posed her sleeping, then told her to imagine how she would feel about a date with Ashton Kutcher.

He also allegedly stripped her down to just a thong and photographed her showing as much skin as possible, which she said was to allow the tattoo company to superimpose an image onto her leg.

Dunne told the Times that she was paid $100 the first night and another $100 after a second night of shooting.

He allegedly told her not to tell the circus.

“They told me that you’re one of the sexiest girls they’ve ever seen,” she claims he told her.

She told a therapist and her parents and, in 2011 or 2012, NYPD, who told her that the statue of limitations on child pornography had expired.

In 2012, Dunne told the Times, she told Big Apple Circus about the alleged photos, but was told that there wasn’t anything they could do because he had left the company.

When Lubin was rehired three months ago, she reached out again. This time, chairman Neil Kahanovitz, who was not in charge in 2012, took action: Lubin was placed on leave Friday and resigned Tuesday night.

“I know that what happened has had a lasting impact on her life, for which I am sorry,” he said in a statement. “I not only failed Ms. Phillips, but I also failed in my responsibility as a man, an adult, a father, and as a representative of the Big Apple Circus.”

Big Apple Circus did not immediately return a request for comment.
