Two people arrested after New York cop hit in face with brick

MASPETH, Queens (WPIX) -- An officer is in the hospital after being hit in the head with a brick, the NYPD said Tuesday.

The brick hit an officer in the head as he responded to a construction site in Queens, police tweeted. The incident happened on Maspeth Avenue near 59th Street.

The officer has since been hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, according to the NYPD.

“I came running down the stairs and saw about 100 cops on the street,” Nick Calandrillo said.

Two people are in custody in connection to the incident, police said.

The incident appeared to happen at a vacant, boarded-up home, a neighbor told PIX11.

“I came running down the stairs and saw about 100 cops on the street,” Nick Calandrillo said. “Most of them stormed into the house.”

Before Tuesday, the only activity on the property were workers periodically going in and out for what appeared to be a renovation project, Calandrillo said.
