Poll: Most Americans don't trust Trump with nuclear authority

With North Korea and the U.S. trading threats of war, a new poll reveals the majority of Americans distrust President Trump with his nuclear authority.

As many as 6 in 10 Americans surveyed feel this way, according to a new ABC News/Washington Post poll.

Just 38 percent trust Trump will act responsibly in handling his nuclear authority, which coincidentally is similar to his job approval rating of 36 percent.

Distrust of the president's nuclear responsibility runs as high as 90 percent among liberals, while trust among Republicans peaks at 77 percent.

Interestingly, women are almost twice as concerned as men that Trump might launch a nuclear attack -- a 42 percent to 22 percent difference.

And despite a mostly positive physical, including a mental component, "the president’s overall health is excellent."

Some 47 percent say Trump isn’t mentally stable, while 48 percent say he is.

Unsurprisingly, 84 percent of those who view Trump mentally unsound are also at least somewhat concerned he might launch a nuclear attack without justification.
