Ivanka Trump reportedly leading charge to replace John Kelly

Updated

A new report published by Vanity Fair on Monday details that Trump's relationship with his chief of staff may have gone past "the point of no return."

Speculation over the Marine Corps general's rapport with Trump grew recently when the New York Times reported that Kelly has threatened to quit his role as a way of getting the president to listen to him. Now, another report claims there is an active search for Kelly's replacement -- and President Trump's eldest daughter and senior adviser is leading that endeavor.

"Ivanka is the most worried about it," a person who Vanity Fair says has spoken with the first daughter told the publication. "She’s trying to figure who replaces Kelly."

John Kelly replaced Reince Priebus as White House chief of staff back in July, and immediately sought to stomp out the chaos of leaks and palace intrigue that plagued the Trump administration in its first calendar year. According to the Washington Post, Trump loyalists once said this crackdown approach runs counter to Trump's natural way of conducting White House business -- with some even dubbing him "the church lady."

Ivanka Trump postured herself as an influential White House adviser in her first year with the Trump administration, using her platform to advocate for STEM education and women's workforce development.
