Patriots QB Brady to play, wear gloves vs. Jaguars

Tom Brady arrived at Gillette Stadium almost five hours before kickoff and received two thumbs up from the Patriots on Sunday morning.

Brady will be active and under center for New England in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Brady jammed his right thumb early in Wednesday's practice and was officially listed as limited for that practice and again Thursday after requiring stitches to close a wound that could impact his grip.

To strengthen his hold on the ball, Brady is wearing gloves on both hands, which will also add protection for his thumb, ESPN reported Sunday.

Brady is one of two quarterbacks on the Patriots' roster. The other, Brian Hoyer, is in his second stint with the team and has 37 career starts.

Running back Rex Burkhead, who missed the past three games with a knee injury, was the culprit who collided with Brady. Burkhead, ESPN and NFL Network reported, is also active Sunday against Jacksonville.

Brady is playing in his 12th AFC title game in 16 NFL seasons.

The Patriots did not make a roster move to add a third quarterback.

"We're in the same meetings every day. We're sitting right next to each other. So whatever I'm hearing or saying, he's hearing the same thing," Brady said this week of Hoyer.

New England faces a strong pass rush from the Jaguars, who had 55 sacks in 2017, with Brady and right tackle LaAdrian Waddle (knee) both listed as questionable entering Sunday's game.
