Donald Trump Jr.: Father’s first year in office was 'the year of the woman'

Donald Trump Jr. declared his father’s term thus far as being a monumental one for women.

"Trump’s first year in office was the year of the woman," President Trump’s son wrote in a tweet.

Trump Jr. also shared a link to an op-ed published by The Hill that highlights the number of females who have high-ranking positions in the White House. It also blasts the media and Democrats for failing to acknowledge the president as the champion of gender equality.

While many would agree 2017 could certainly be described as "the year of the woman," their reasons may differ from those cited in the op-ed, which was written by Republican strategist Jen Kerns.

In 2017’s later months, many women came forward to reveal sexual misconduct by a number of the United States’ more powerful and high-profile men, notes the New York Times.

Those accounts were largely taken seriously and, at least for now, ended a number of careers.

Movie producer Harvey Weinstein, ‘Today’ show host Matt Lauer, and actor Kevin Spacey were all pushed from their posts and projects.

Social media became dominated by the #MeToo movement, which encouraged women to talk about times they were targets of sexual harassment, misconduct, and other such aggressions.

One person who has made it through the era of accountability relatively unscathed is President Trump.

Vox notes that he has been accused of various sexual improprieties by at least a dozen women, but still enjoys the support of Republican congressional leaders and, apparently, the bulk of his voter base.
