San Antonio Spurs shut Kawhi Leonard down indefinitely

The San Antonio Spurs announced Wednesday that forward Kawhi Leonard will be shut down for an indefinite period of time to continue his rehab from right quadriceps tendinopathy.

Leonard missed the first 27 games of the season while recovering from the injury, and then returned from a three-game absence last week after suffering a small muscle tear in his left shoulder. In nine games this season he is averaging 16.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

"Kawhi has made significant progress and continues to move forward in his rehabilitation," said Spurs General Manager RC Buford. "This is the best approach for the next steps in his return to play."
