Navy veteran's mom missed son's funeral in the U.S. after being denied visa

A Navy veteran’s mother missed his funeral in the U.S. because she was denied a visa twice to enter the country.

Ngoc Truong, a four-year Navy veteran, died from leukemia on Dec. 17. He was 22.

Hung Truong, Ngoc’s father, told WREG-TVthat his Vietnamese-born ex-wife applied for a visa twice but her requests were denied. She then missed their son’s funeral in Arkansas.

“That's what made me fuming mad,” Truong, who owns a jewelry store in Arkansas, said. “Fuming. Why?”

Ngoc left the Navy in October but died shortly after doctors diagnosed him with leukemia.

The State Department hasn’t said why it rejected the woman’s visas requests.

"Since visa records are confidential under the Immigration and Nationality Act, we are not able to discuss specific visa cases," a State Department spokesman said. "Visa applications are adjudicated according to U.S. immigration law. Each visa application is considered individually."
