Canadiens C Danault released from hospital after slapshot to head

The Montreal Canadiens received good news on Sunday when center Phillip Danault was released from the hospital a day after getting hit in the head by a puck shot by Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara.

Danault will continue his recovery at home, according to a team announcement.

The incident took place with 1:37 remaining in the second period Saturday night. Chara blasted one from the blue line, hitting Danault, who was standing at the top of the faceoff circle, on the right side of his head off his helmet. The 24-year-old fell to the ice and appeared to be unconscious as trainers rushed to his aid.

Danault was moving and speaking to the medical staff before he was stretchered off the ice and taken to the hospital, where he remained overnight.

The CBC broadcast had Chara's shot clocked at 123.2 kilometers per hour, which converts to 76.5 mph.

The game was halted for intermission after Danault was injured, and the extra 1:37 was added to the start of the third period. The Bruins went on to win 4-3 in a shootout.
