Kim Jong Un's favorite girl group could perform at the Winter Olympics

A musical development has emerged in the thawing tensions between North and South Korea. The AP reported that a North Korean orchestra will perform in the upcoming Winter Olympics.

In rare talks between the North and South, the countries agreed the 140-member orchestra would perform at the Pyeongchang winter games as it quote “contributes to improving relations and recovering the cultural homogeneity” between the two nations.

Among that 140-member art troupe, Kim Jong Un’s favorite girl band may be participating. Called the Moranbong Band, the all-girl group was hand-picked by Kim in 2012, according to Fox News.

The head of the band was seen attending the ongoing talks although they weren’t specifically mentioned in the joint statement.

According to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, the band dubbed “North Korea’s only girl group” uses music to promote Kim’s propaganda, but it also lays claim to a hit cover of the “Rocky” theme song.

The two countries will meet again to talk North Korean athletes attending the games.
