Alabama linebacker who tried to fight coach in national title game will transfer to Tennessee State

Mekhi Brown, the Alabama linebacker whose sideline altercation with a Crimson Tide assistant coach during college football's championship game was seen on national television, is transferring to Tennessee State.

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound redshirt sophomore, reportedly had begun the transfer process more than a month before the national championship game against Georgia.

Brown appeared in 12 games and made seven tackles this season while playing primarily on special teams.

He will be eligible to play immediately at Tennessee State, an FBS school that had recruited Brown out of high school in Columbus, Ga.

Head coach Nick Saban scolded Brown for receiving a personal foul penalty after punching Georgia's Wyatt Payne in the national championship game. Brown was then caught on camera trying to get to an assistant coach while a teammate grabbed and held Brown back.

Brown apologized in the Alabama locker room for his behavior after the game.
