Michigan teens accused of throwing rocks that killed dad in car found competent to stand trial

Three of the five Michigan teens accused of hurling rocks from a highway overpass that killed a man while riding in a car have been found competent to stand trial for his murder.

Examinations of Kyle Anger, 17, Mark Sekelsky, 16, and Trevor Gray, 15 showed they were mentally competent when the incident occurred along Interstate 75 in October, Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said.

Lawyers for the three teens requested mental exams for their clients, but lawyers for the two other suspects — Mikadyn Payne, 16, and Alexzander Miller, 15 — did not.

The teens are accused of tossing dozens of rocks, including one that crashed through the windshield of the car Kenneth White was traveling in. His coworker was driving the vehicle.

The six-pound rock hit the 32-year-old father of four in his face and chest as he was heading home from work. He died from blunt force trauma, the medical examiner said.

The five teens were charged as adults with second-degree murder and other charges. They're scheduled for court appearances on Thursday.
