Mom charged with neglect after falling TV breaks baby's skull

A toddler suffered a fractured skull and various broken facial bones, which her mother allegedly ignored.

Investigators told WESH 2 the 1-year-old girl appears to have been injured by a TV falling on her. Her mother, Michelle Pierce, has been charged with neglect.

The 27-year-old has been accused of failing to bring her daughter to the hospital. Daytona Police told the outlet it was clear the child was badly hurt.

The girl's father reportedly arrived to pick the girl up with his two other children in tow and noticed that his daughter's face appeared swollen.

He took her to the hospital where doctors realized the girl had "significant swelling around the eyes, a missing right front tooth and cuts and abrasions on her face and lips."

The child underwent a CT scan which revealed "multiple facial fractures" and the fractured skull, according to WESH 2.

Investigators claim Pierce told the toddler's father she was injured falling off a scooter.

An incident report obtained by the publication stated that Pierce later told police "a TV had fallen" on her daughter. She maintained that she was not home when the incident occurred.

Additionally, Pierce allegedly told police she didn't take her daughter to be treated for her injuries because she "knew she would get in trouble."

WESH 2 reported that the Florida Department of Children and Families already has an open case against Pierce.

Police have opened their own case against her as she's facing charges of neglect of a child causing great bodily harm.
