Report: Mitt Romney was successfully treated for prostate cancer in 2017
Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney was reportedly treated for prostate cancer in the summer of 2017, according to sources.
CNN anchor Jake Tapper first tweeted out a quote from sources on Monday offering initial details about Romney's diagnosis and treatment.
"Mitt Romney was treated over the summer for prostate cancer," the statement tweeted by Tapper reads. "He was treated surgically by Dr. Thomas Ahlering at UC Irvine Hospital in California. His prognosis is good; he was successfully treated."

Romney served as the governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007, and ran as the Republican party's presidential nominee in 2012 against former President Barack Obama. The Utah resident has recently made headlines as speculation rises over whether he will run for Sen. Orrin Hatch's congressional seat. Hatch announced last week that he will retire at the end of his current term.
