Trump still says Mexico will pay for the border wall

President Trump long promised to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and on Saturday, he told reporters that Mexico will still pay for it.

He expressed that view despite his administration’s recent efforts to secure the wall’s funding through Congress.

“The Trump administration has told lawmakers that it wants $18 billion over the next decade for the initial phase of a Mexico border wall, laying out for the first time a detailed financial blueprint for the president’s signature campaign promise,” the Washington Post reported.

In fact, he has said on numerous occasions that the funding has to be part of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) deal.

“The Democrats have been told, and fully understand, that there can be no DACA without the desperately needed WALL at the Southern Border and an END to the horrible Chain Migration & ridiculous Lottery System of Immigration,” Trump wrote in a recent tweet. “We must protect our Country at all cost!”

While reiterating his campaign promise to get Mexico to fund the wall, Trump on Saturday added, “we are negotiating NAFTA, we’ll see how that goes…in some form, Mexico will pay for the wall.”

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto has repeatedly stated over the past months that his nation will not be financing the border wall in any way.
