Hairy situation: Sharks' Thornton loses chunk of beard in fight

When San Jose Sharks center Joe Thornton dropped the gloves with Toronto Maple Leafs center Nazem Kadri at the start of Thursday's game, Thornton's beard came out the loser -- literally.

Thornton and Kadri squared off two seconds into Thursday's matchup, exchanging blows off the game's opening faceoff. After the fracas, cameras caught Kadri dropping a handful of Thornton's beard onto the ice.

The chunk of hair was later delivered to the Sharks' bench, where backup goalie Aaron Dell put it in his glove to show off to his teammates.

Thornton's beard has been part of his look since the 2015-16 season. The 38-year-old veteran has eight goals and 19 assists this season, leading the Sharks in points.
