Tonya Harding admits to previous knowledge of possible attack on Nancy Kerrigan

Former figure skater Tonya Harding admits she had prior knowledge of a potential attack on her opponent Nancy Kerrigan leading up to the 1994 Olympic Games.

In the ABC special “Truth and Lies: The Tonya Harding Story,” Harding says, “I knew something was up.”

According to the Daily Mail, Harding says that she had nothing to do with the attack, which was planned by her ex-husband Jeff Gilooly and bodyguard Shawn Eckardt.

Harding says that she overheard the pair speaking saying, “Well, maybe we should take somebody out to make sure she gets on the team.”

She confessed that she did ask what they were talking about.

Harding pleaded guilty to conspiring to hinder the prosecution of those involved in the attack. She was subsequently sentenced to community service along with probation.

Harding also lost her title in the 1994 US championship and received a lifetime ban from any US Figure Skating Association events as a skater or coach.
