Man accused of beating stepson to death over a cookie

A Florida man is being charged with murdering his stepson over a cookie.

Jack Junior Montgomery, 31, is being held at the county jail on $870,000 bond after he told investigators he repeatedly punched and kicked Brice Russell as an act of discipline after the 7-year-old got out of bed to get a cookie, according to WFLA.

Montgomery then forced the boy’s brothers to sleep in the same bed with the lifeless body all night.

The boy's mother, Donya Shenita Russell, was working a double shift at the time the horrific incident went down inside the Seffner Masters Inn, the hotel the family lived in.

“While she was out working he chose to physically discipline this child himself," Assistant State Attorney Matthew Smith told a judge in court. "Repeatedly punching and throwing him on the ground. Threatening bodily harm upon the two brothers if they did not partake and equally discipline him.”

The child's brothers explained to investigators they were forced to watch Montgomery punch Brice Russell in the head and stomach several times with a closed fist, reports WFLA.

“(Montgomery) picked him up and flung him as described by the other brothers, helicopter across the hotel room into what’s kind of a cabinet, where he hit head first.

And ultimately caused his brain to bleed,” said Smith said suggesting that caused the child to perish within minutes.

Montgomery, who has a history of domestic violence and battery, could now be facing the death penalty after being charged with the murder.
