Reports: Bears fire John Fox

Head coach John Fox was fired by the Chicago Bears on Monday after finishing last in the NFC North for the third consecutive season.

Fox ended his tenure Sunday with a loss to the Minnesota Vikings and a 14-34 record as head coach of the Bears.

Multiple outlets reported general manager Ryan Pace was expected to be retained -- he was hired shortly after Fox arrived -- and lead the search for a new coach.

Fox, 62, downplayed the weight of a potential change this week, saying "I've never had trouble getting employment in this league and I'm not going to start worrying about it now."

The Bears have missed the playoffs in 10 of the past 11 seasons and Fox recorded only three wins against NFC North teams during his three seasons in Chicago.

Fox has been a head coach for 15 seasons with the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos and Bears. He was let go by the Panthers after a 2-14 season in 2010 and replaced by Gary Kubiak in Denver following the Broncos' 2014 playoff elimination.

With the Bears, Fox's .292 winning percentage is second-worst in franchise history to Abe Gibron, who went 11-30-1 (.274) from 1972 to 1974.
