Trump again warns Iran: US is 'watching very closely for human rights violations'

President Trump on Sunday issued another warning to Iran in the wake of the recent anti-government protests over economic grievances.

“Big protests in Iran. The people are finally getting wise as to how their money and wealth is being stolen and squandered on terrorism. Looks like they will not take it any longer,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “The USA is watching very closely for human rights violations!”

The post comes after the president posted multiple tweets on the situation Saturday.

“Many reports of peaceful protests by Iranian citizens fed up with regime’s corruption & its squandering of the nation’s wealth to fund terrorism abroad. Iranian govt should respect their people’s rights, including right to express themselves,” Trump wrote. "The world is watching!

According to Fox News, “two protesters were killed at a rally amid warnings Sunday from the country’s government that anyone who disrupts order and breaks the law ‘must be responsible for their behavior and pay the price.’”

During his presidency, Trump has taken an aggressive stance toward Iran. Back in October, the president announced his decision to refrain from recertifying the Iran nuclear-deal compliance.

“Iran is under the control of a fanatical regime that seized power in 1979 and forced a proud people to submit to its extremist rule,” Trump said during the announcement. “This radical regime has raided the wealth of one of the world’s oldest and most vibrant nations, and spread death, destruction, and chaos all around the globe.”

“We stand in total solidarity with the Iranian regime’s longest-suffering victims: its own people, Trump added.
