Naked postal worker accused of murdering boss, co-worker

An Ohio mail carrier at risk of losing his job walked naked into a Dublin Post Office where he’s accused of fatally shooting his boss before targeting the postal inspector leading the investigation into his workplace violations.

DeShaune K. Stewart sent panicked postal workers fleeing from their workplace early Saturday morning when he entered the building and allegedly gunned down his immediate supervisor, 52-year-old Lance Maurice Herrera Dempsey, police said.

His co-workers told officers Stewart was naked when he entered the building through sorting bay ahead of his shift, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Columbus Dispatch.

Dublin Police Lt. Steve Farmer told the newspaper he did not threaten his other co-workers, but rather targeted Dempsey.

Authorities suspect the 24-year-old then made his way to an apartment complex on Bowland Place, where he waited in his car for his second target.

Police around 7 a.m. responded to reports of a man chasing a woman with a gun and discovered the body of the postal inspector between a pair of parked cars, Columbus Homicide squad Sgt. David Sicilian told the newspaper.

It’s unclear how she was killed, though authorities did recover a handgun near the Strathmoor apartments.

Stewart had been facing unspecified workplace violations that could have resulted in his dismissal.

Sicilian described the murders as “workplace violence,” explaining the brutal incident appears to be retaliation against those involved in his potential firing.
