Teenager stabbed stepfather, recorded Snapchat video of him dying

A 19-year-old man allegedly stabbed his stepfather to death last week and recorded a Snapchat video of the aftermath.

Police responded to a report of a stabbing and arrested Nickolas Khalil Vinson, who faces a first-degree murder charge in connection to the death.

Vinson admitted to stabbing his stepfather, Oscar Lemar Owensby, 40, an arrest affidavit shows, the Aurora Sentinel reported.

He initially fled a home in the 2700 block of South Rifle Street but returned after police called him.

Vinson told police the pair had exchanged heated text messages about Vinson’s contribution to the household. Owensby wanted Vinson to do more around the house and also chip in financially, the Aurora Sentinel reported.

Vinson said he expected Owensby to hit him that night, so he grabbed a large knife, and stabbed Owensby in the neck. He then stabbed him repeatedly, the Aurora Sentinel reported.

Police said Vinson then recorded Owensby lying on the ground as he bled, with Vinson’s mother crouching next to him, screaming.

Vinson can be heard saying: “I killed him” in the Snapchat video, police said.

Vinson is being held without bond at the Arapahoe County Jail on a first-degree murder charge according to jail records.

He is due in court Friday.
