An Oklahoma man was arrested after he allegedly beat his girlfriend's five-year-old son because the little boy opened a Christmas present a few days early.

Bridgette Payne left her son Ayrian with her boyfriend of 10 months, Wesley McCollum, on Saturday to finish up some last minute holiday shopping, according to WPIX.

In a since-deleted Facebook post, Payne said that when she arrived home that night, 25-year-old McCollum told her that Ayrian had been sent to bed early because he opened a wrapped gift that was under the Christmas tree.

After checking on her son, Payne said she discovered bruises on his arms and back, welts on his forehead and a large hand-print on his cheek.

"Words cannot explain seeing your baby like this and having no clue what happened," she wrote on Facebook. "'Wesley hurt me bad, mama,' is all he kept saying."

Payne immediately called the police, who arrested McCollum on complaints of child abuse and child neglect, according to KJRH. She also filed a protective order against McCollum on Monday morning.

Payne said that over the course of their 10-month relationship, McCollum had "not once" exhibited anger or aggression towards her or her son, nor did she think he was capable of something like this.

"I would of (sic) never been with him. Plain and simple," she wrote on Facebook.
