Bill Belichick bans Tom Brady's trainer from team plane, sideline

The man whom Tom Brady has credited for extending his legendary NFL career is now persona non grata in the eyes of Bill Belichick, according to a report.

The Boston Globe reported Tuesday that Alex Guerrero, Brady’s trainer, close friend and business partner who helped launch the quarterback’s TB12 Center, has been banned from boarding Patriots jets and accompanying the team on the sidelines.

Guerrero, who has treated Brady and several other New England players at the TB12 Center near Gillette Stadium since 2013, also has an office inside the stadium close to the team’s locker room. However, Guerrero is also no longer permitted to treat players other than Brady in his stadium office, per the report.

Belichick reportedly stripped Geurrero of his privileges weeks ago, though the exact reasons and their timing remain unclear.

When asked Monday about a possible rift between the coach and Guerrero, Brady told WEEI, “I don’t have any comment on that other than to say Alex, it’s been well-documented, has been a huge part of what I do and I’m so fortunate to have him not only as a friend, but with everything that we’ve been able to do together.”

The 40-year-old Brady added that Guerrero, who is the godfather of his son Ben, “has been a huge, huge reason why I’m still playing.”

Belichick declined to address the issue with WEEI on Monday.

The Globe reported in 2015 that Patriots trainers and medical staff took issue with Guerrero’s expanding role with the team. Several staffers complained to Belichick about how Guerrero’s alternative treatments clashed with their own methods. But according to the Globe, Belichick informed the training staff that his hands were tied because of Brady’s special status with the organization.

Guerrero has been a driving force behind Brady’s TB12 brand, which includes the QB’s line of snacks and “performance meals” and his $200 “TB12 Nutrition Manual.”

But the body coach hasn’t been without controversy. A Boston Magazine article in 2015 revealed that before entering into business with Brady, Guerrero was twice sued for fraud after the Federal Trade Commission sued him for making false claims about a nutritional supplement called Supreme Greens.

Guerrero, who according to the FTC had falsely presented himself as a medical doctor, claimed that the product helped people survive cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

After being hit with a $65,000 fine, Guerrero again ran into trouble with the agency after marketing a product called NeuroSafe, which claimed to improve and expedite recovery from head trauma. The FTC took no action against Guerrero after he agreed to stop marketing NeuroSafe and offered refunds to customers.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft told The New York Times Magazine in 2015 that Guerrero’s role with the team “doesn’t come without its challenges.”

On Sunday, however, Kraft’s son and team president Jonathan Kraft reportedly told WBZ-FM that he was unaware of any friction between Guerrero and team employyes.

"I haven't heard anything from either the coaching staff or Alex about either one being upset with each other," Kraft said.
