Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner sued over financial disclosures

Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner have added a lawsuit of their list of worries after a D.C. attorney sued them for failures on their financial forms.

The couple, both advisers in the White House, have faced scrutiny since they “inadvertently omitted” dozens of assets worth millions in their first disclosures earlier this year.

But the disclosures all include a swamp of LLCs, investment vehicles known for their secrecy, and lawyer Jeffrey Lovitsky said in a Washington D.C. federal court filing Sunday that he wants to know the “underlying holdings.”

The suit, published by POLITICO Sunday, also asked for information about the value of two other assets and takes issue with the idea that the details cannot be made public because of pre-existing confidentiality agreements

Lovitsky said that he has standing to sue the couple from two real estate behemoths because he is entitled to receive under the Ethics in Government Act.

The act says that government officials must make a “full and complete statement” of their assets on their forms.

Beyond Lovitsky’s suit, Kushner and Ivanka Trump have both received fines for filing their paperwork late, according to a McClatchy report from October.

The lawyer also filed a civil suit against President Trump under the Ethics in Government Act earlier this year, saying that he had mixed his own personal liabilities with his company and therefore it was impossible to tell what his own debts were.

That suit is still pending after a motion to dismiss.
