Surgeon admits to burning his initials into patients' livers

A British surgeon has admitted to burning his initials into the liver of two patients during their transplant operations.

According to CBS News, prosecutors say in 2013 Simon Bramhall used an argon beam coagulator, to etch "SB" on the organs.

The BBC reports, that the branding isn’t believed to be harmful to the liver and usually disappear.

However, one liver that may have been damaged didn’t heal, leaving the marking visible.

The 53-year-old surgeon, resigned in 2014 from Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham after another doctor discovered what he had done.

Bramhall pleaded guilty to two counts of assault on Wednesday.

He is expected to be sentenced in January.
