North Korean state-run media claims Kim Jong Un controls the weather, climbed 9,000-foot mountain

North Korea’s state-run media has portrayed its leader Kim Jong Un as a strongman for having a nuclear weapons program, and now it claims he can control the weather.

Photos released Saturday by state-run media KCNA show a smiling Kim on top of Mount Paektu — a volcano on the North Korea-China border — wearing his signature black coat and black leather shoes.

State-run media Rodong Sinmun said Kim significantly changed the weather for the better when he arrived on the 9,000-foot mountain.

Kim apparently brought sunshine when it would’ve been a dreary winter day during a blizzard, a government statement says.

State-run media also claimed Kim climbed that same mountain two years ago. However, recent photos don’t show him with climbing equipment.

It’s been speculated that the dictator’s past visits to Mount Paektu were followed by important decisions, including the execution of his uncle.

“It's unlikely that Kim went up the so-called sacred mountain for fresh air. He is likely to have considered how he will formulate external policies after having declared the regime a nuclear state,” a source in South Korea said, according to United Press International.
