Woman rescued from kidnapper after mouthing ‘help me’ inside store

An Oregon woman who was kidnapped with her child was rescued after she mouthed "help me" to employees and customers inside a store.

Investigators said 25-year-old Christopher Hahn-Collins broke into the unidentified woman's Salem home on Friday afternoon, according to CBS News.

When the woman and her child returned home, he held the mother and kid at knifepoint overnight.

On Saturday, the woman convinced Hahn-Collins to take her to Dick's Sporting Goods on Lancaster Drive where she signaled for help by mouthing "help me" to people inside the store.

Several people called 911 and detectives arrested Hahn-Collins at the retail store.

"We have to commend her because how brave is that? She did a great job of keeping this man calm and getting herself in a position where she could get help," Marion County Sheriff's Office Lt. Chris Baldridge told KGW.

Police said they don't believe Hahn-Collins knew the woman or child before kidnapping them.

He's currently being held at the Marion County Jail and faces charges for first and second degree kidnapping, menacing, first degree burglary, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon and giving false information to the police.

Hahn-Collins is also being held for parole violation warrant stemming from a previous sex abuse charge, KOIN reports.
