Mom of cop who took down Port Authority bomber swells with pride

The mom of one of the hero Port Authority cops who took down and disarmed a would-be suicide bomber in a Times Square subway passage swelled with pride at his quick actions.

“I got goosebumps. I just wanted to start crying,” said Angela Manfredini, the mother of Anthony Manfredini, 28, a rookie member of the PAPD who previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps for five years.

Manfredini and fellow officers Drew Preston, Jack Collins and Sean Gallagher were credited with tackling Akayed Ullah, 27, and restraining him at about 7:20 a.m. Monday just after he set off a pipe bomb and before he could do anything else.

“I'm just so proud of him and all the guys that are doing a great job for us and keep us safe every day,” mom Manfredini said.

Manfredini works most of the time in the K-9 unit doing bomb detection, she said.

Angela Manfredini said she got a text from her daughter, who takes the train every day, saying Anthony had a part in catching the guy.

“You worry every day,” she said. “It's a crazy world out there, anybody could just pick up a gun and shoot someone. He's trying to keep us safe, but his life is danger too.”

The PAPD posted on Twitter: GREAT JOB PAPD TAKING DOWN SUBWAY BOMBING SUSPECT,” and named the four officers.

Three commuters suffered ringing in the ears and headaches following the pipe bomb explosion.

Ullah sustained burns and lacerations and was at Bellevue Hospital in serious condition.
