A picture is worth a thousand words, especially when it's from a bird's eye view.

These stunning images are typically shot from planes or helicopters, but in recent years drones have become increasingly popular with photographers, especially if they're not too keen on dangling out of a plane door.

Photojournalists from Reuters have used aerial photography to document many of the natural disasters that have impacted the globe in 2017, as well as some hidden gems only noticed from great heights. The perspective these images lend to us is quite captivating, transforming the familiar into an unknown world, as well as reminding us how vast our world truly is.
