Texans QB Tom Savage returns to game despite concussion

Updated

Fans are again throwing a flag on the NFL's sideline concussion protocol.

Texans quarterback Tom Savage briefly returned to Sunday's game after taking a vicious hit from 49ers defensive end Elvis Dumervil in the second quarter. Savage could be seen on video shaking as he appeared dazed from the blow.

Despite being taken to the injury tent to be evaluated, Savage came back into the game on the Texans' next possession. It was only later in the quarter that Savage was taken to the locker room.

The Texans later released a statement and announced that Savage had indeed suffered a concussion and would not return to the game.

"Disgusted that the @HoustonTexans allowed Tom Savage to return to the game after 2 plays after showing these horrifying #concussion signs (is that a seizure?) after a head impact," Chris Nowinski, co-founder of the Boston University's CTE Center, tweeted. "I would not let my worst enemy go through the 2017 #NFL sidline concussion protocal ...."
