New book says Steve Bannon laughed upon hearing Trump was running for president

Corey Lewandowski, a former Trump campaign manager, has co-written behind-the-scenes accounts in his new book, titled, ‘Let Trump Be Trump: The Inside Story of His Rise to the Presidency.’

Axios reports that among the revelations within is how Steve Bannon responded to news of Donald Trump’s run.

“The authors write that Steve Bannon, when he first heard Trump was running for president, laughed and said: ‘Yeah, of what country?’” the media outlet notes.

Nevertheless, Bannon was and remains an ardent Trump supporter.

Bannon-led Breitbart News was one of the now-president’s earliest and most enthusiastic backers, calling him the “John Wayne of politics” and stating in late 2015, “we should thank God that Trump is in this race…He will set back the destruction of America.”

Bannon later joined the campaign and, upon Trump’s victory, was given a chief strategist position in the White House.

Though the president did ultimately fire him, Bannon has indicated he will continue to serve what he sees as Trump’s true vision, according to the New York Times.

Shortly after his ouster, Bannon commented, “In many ways, I think I can be more effective fighting from the outside for the agenda President Trump ran on. And anyone who stands in our way, we will go to war with.”
