Secret Service paid $7G to use golf carts for Trump Thanksgiving

Blowing money is just par for the course.

Newly revealed orders show that the Secret Service had to chip in $7,470 to rent golf carts while President Trump spent Thanksgiving at his private club Mar-a-Lago.

According to USA Today, the expense added to the already sizeable amount the agency has had to spend on renting the diminutive course-covering vehicles, with the current total reaching at least $144,975 so far.

The contract to rent golf carts in Florida is not with a Trump-branded course but rather the Miami-based Golf Cart & Utility Distributors.

Palm Beach-dining setting for the club members. Mar-a-lago is an estate and National Historic Landmark in Palm Beach built by the heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post. It was envisioned as a winter retreat for presidents, but never used as such and in 1985 Donald Trump purchased it. The estate contains the Mar-a-lago private club, and a separate closed off area that serve as the Trumps family private quarters..............-the Estate showcases a sumptuous decorative style , everywhere you turned there were lavish accents, but all of these tied together with elegance and an undeniable regal style. I was amazed at the countless details, the estate is truly breathtaking. #palmbeach #maralago #lls #blacktie #gala #glamour #jetsetter #exclusive #liveauthentic #luxury #lifestyle #fashion

However, that sum for the rentals is nothing compared to what Trump's golf habits have cost taxpayers in full. The site Trumpgolfcount.com estimates his 78 visits to golf clubs since inauguration thus far have broken the $84 million mark.

In comparison, President Obama spent no more than $97 million on travel in all eight years in the White House.

Due in part to Trump's numerous trips to his golf courses in Florida, New Jersey and Virginia, the Secret Service reached a point in August where it could not afford to pay overtime for more than 1,000 agents required to protect the President as well as his many family members and properties.

A bill exists that would authorize further overtime pay, but it has stalled in Congress for two months.
