Titans WR Rishard Matthews to wear Colin Kaepernick-themed cleats

For the first time this season, Colin Kaepernick may be on an NFL field.

As part of the NFL’s #MyCauseMyCleats promotion that allows players to wear customized footwear to spread awareness about the issues they are most passionate about, Titans receiver Rishard Matthews will honor Kaepernick and his Know Your Rights Camp with his footwear.

"I don't have a foundation so I have chosen to support my brother (Colin Kaepernick's) foundation," Matthews said, via TMZ. "He has paid the ultimate sacrifice in order to bring true everyday issues to light."

Kaepernick has been out of football all season after starting the polarizing anthem demonstrations a year ago in protest of racial injustice and police brutality. Kaepernick brought a lawsuit against the NFL earlier this year alleging teams are colluding against him and have effectively blackballed him because of his political beliefs.

While the player remains excommunicated from the league, Kaepernick will appear on an NFL field this weekend, though it will only be his image.

Matthews’ cleats have “COLIN” written on one side and “KAEPERNICK” on the other, include the iconic cartoon image of the kneeling, afro-wearing QB on one toe, and the Know Your Rights Camp logo on each heel.

Matthews’ older half-brother, Christopher Ruiz, was killed while serving in the Marines in Afghanistan two years ago.
