Luis Gutiérrez may be considering a 2020 presidential bid against Trump

Democratic Rep. Luis Gutiérrez may be considering a 2020 presidential run.

Earlier this week, the Illinois congressman announced he would not seek re-election after serving 13 terms in the House.

However, he did tell Politico that he was making early strides for a 2020 bid and would not be retiring.

"I will be reaching out to people across the country," Gutiérrez said. "This is what I can tell you — anybody really wanted to listen to me — look, I'm not retiring, I'm not retiring. I'm going to sit down with Soraida [Gutiérrez’s wife], and we're going to figure it out. I want to build something, I want to build something national."

He also stated that he would be taking proper steps to make sure he is following all Federal Election Commission guidelines.

Gutiérrez is known for his immigration advocacy and belief that Democrats "did not do enough" in the last election to garner support from immigrant communities.
