Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield won't start against West Virginia after crotch-grabbing incident

Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley announced this afternoon the punishment for star quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Mayfield, due to his antics against Kansas, will not start against West Virginia on Saturday. The Heisman Trophy frontrunner will also not be a team captain.

The senior QB will play against the Mountaineers, though.

Mayfield got into it with the Jayhawks during Saturday’s blowout win. It started when Kansas’ players refused to shake his hands during the coin toss. There were then some questionable hits during the game and Mayfield even got into it with members of the crowd.

He also did this:

Mayfield apologized for what happened after the game.

“I got caught up in a competitive game, a chippy game, but what I did was unacceptable,” Mayfield told reporters. “I apologize. It’s disrespectful. It’s not the example I want to set. It’s not the legacy I want to leave at OU. I truly do apologize. Thinking about the kids that are watching this now, it’s not something I want to do to the parents out there. I’m sorry.”
