Navy issues apology after pilot reportedly draws penis in the sky

The United States Navy apologized after one of its pilots reportedly used their planes to draw a disturbing image in the skies above Washington Thursday.

Complaints sent to local CBS affiliate KREM featured photos of the sky drawing that many immediately likened to that of male genitalia.

Residents in Okanogan County, Wash., also took Twitter with the phallic image:

In a statement to the local station, Navy officials appeared to take accountability for the stunt, saying: "The Navy holds its aircrew to the highest standards and we find this absolutely unacceptable, of zero training value and we are holding the crew accountable."

KREM also spoke to the Federal Aviation Administration for more information about the artistic pilot. However, since the pilot's action did not pose a safety risk, FAA officials told the outlet there is nothing they can do about it, and added that they “cannot police morality.”

The aircraft involved in the obscene skywriting belonged to the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, which is located in Puget Sound and supports both fixed and rotary aircraft.
