Report: Auburn fan shot in Alabama after argument over upcoming Iron Bowl

Alabama and Auburn each have a home game against a small-conference opponent this weekend, but Crimson Tide and Tiger fans have already turned their attention to the November 25 Iron Bowl.

That’s understandable. Mercer and Louisiana-Monroe don’t really move the needle for the two SEC powers, and the winner of the Iron Bowl will head to Atlanta to face Georgia in the SEC Championship. Alabama would be a virtual lock for the College Football Playoff with that win, and Auburn would have a great chance to crash the party, even with two losses.

The rivalry is fun and heated. Unfortunately, on Monday night, things went too far after an argument over the game in Mobile, and one man was shot as a result. From AL.com:

A man was shot Monday following an argument over which football team is better: the University of Alabama or Auburn University.

Mobile police responded to a call concerning a person who was shot at a motel on East I-65 Service Road South at 7:53 p.m. The victim told authorities he was arguing with another man when the shooter asked him which football team is better. The shooter became angry, pulled out a firearm and shot the victim in the thigh before fleeing the scene, police said.

As of now, no one has been taken in to custody for the shooting.
