British explorer missing for three weeks found alive

A British explorer missing for three weeks in the jungles of Papua New Guinea has been found alive but is “not out of danger yet.”

Benedict Allen, who has made numerous programs for the BBC, was in the country north of Australia attempting to make contact with Yaifo tribe when he missed his flights out.

His family was left to worry if the worst had happened to the 57-year-old father, though the BBC’s Frank Gardner reported Thursday that he was seen “alive and well” by tribal chieftains in the area.

Gardner added that Allen was still in danger because “he's marooned at an airstrip after tribal fighting cut off all the road bridges.”

His agent Jo Sarsby told the BBC that his exact coordinates were being determined to send an aircrat to evacuate him.

Allen had previously visited the area before 30 years ago, when he became part of a local tribe.

In a cryptic tweet before he left Britain he had said "don't try to rescue me, please - where I'm going in PNG you won't ever find me you know.."

This is a developing story and will be updated.
