Woman, 18, dies when deer smashes through windshield

GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXMI) -- An 18-year-old woman died Monday morning after her car hit a deer in Gaines Township.

The crash was reported at about 8:45 a.m. in the 4300 block of 68th Street SE.

The Kent County Sheriff's Office says Elana Nhu Tran was driving east along 68th Street when she hit a deer. The deer smashed through her windshield and her car rolled and struck another vehicle.

Tran was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a release from the sheriff's office.  The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
