Report: Trump says he hasn’t 'devoted' much time to Roy Moore controversy

As President Trump continues his extended trip through Asia, he has reportedly indicated that the sexual misconduct allegations surrounding Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore have not been a priority for him.

“I’m dealing with the president of China, the president of Russia. I’m dealing with the folks over here,” Trump told reporters when asked about the issue, according to The Hill. “So I haven’t devoted – I haven’t been able to devote very much time to it.”

“I’ll stick with my statement for now, but I’ll have further comment as we go down the road,” Trump added. “I have to get back into the country to see what’s happening.”

Trump’s comment follows a stronger statement read by White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders the day before.

“Like most Americans, the President believes that we cannot allow a mere allegation — in this case, one from many years ago — to destroy a person’s life,” Sanders said. “However, the President also believes that if these allegations are true, Judge Moore will do the right thing and step aside.”

The controversy erupted Thursday when the Washington Post reported that four women had come forward claiming that Moore pursued them romantically when they were in their teens and “he was in his early 30s.”

One woman, Leigh Corfman, said he initiated sexual contact with her when he was 32, and she was just 14.

Moore has since told Sean Hannity, “…these allegations are completely false, false and misleading.”

However, critics have pointed out that when Hannity asked him if he remembered dating young girls in his early 30s, Moore seemed to be less forceful in his response, saying, “Not generally, no.”
