Oklahoma woman who married mother pleads guilty to incest, get 10-years' probation

An Oklahoma woman who married her biological mother last year was sentenced to 10 years of probation Tuesday for committing incest.

Misty Spann, 26, pleaded guilty to illegally marrying 44-year-old Patricia Spann and was sentenced in Stepens County District Court, according to Tulsa World.

Authorities learned about the incestuous relationship after a child welfare investigation, the Associated Press reported citing a police affidavit.

Incest is punishable for up to 10-years in prison in Oklahoma.

Patricia Spann told investigators that she lost custody of her three children, but reconnected with them in 2014. After she met “hit it off,” according to the paper.

Patricia decided to marry Misty because her name wasn’t on her daughter’s birth certificate, documents say.

She also married her biological son in 2008, but the marriage was later annuled after he described it as incest, according to the affidavit.

Patricia is also charged with incest and is expected to appear in court in January.
