Knicks fan votes for Kristaps Porzingis for mayor of NYC

Kristaps Porzingis has captivated New York City and now it looks like one Knicks fan wants him to govern it.

While incumbent Bill de Blasio already faced competition from Republican challenger Nicole Malliotakis, Reform Party candidate Sal Albanese and Independent candidate Bo Dietl in NYC’s mayoral race Tuesday, one NYC resident decided to go outside the box and write-in Kristaps Porzingis for mayor instead.

“Meanwhile in NYC mayoral race, friend sent me a pic of their protest ballot,” NBC News political reporter Benjy Sarlin posted to Twitter Tuesday night, including a photo of what appears to be a NYC mayoral ballot with Kristaps Porzingis' name listed as a write-in candidate.

Unfortunately, it’s unlikely Porzingis gathered the required signatures to become a viable candidate.

While the 22-year-old Latvian may not be mayor any time soon, he continues to dominate on the court. Porzingis entered Tuesday night’s game against the Bobcats averaging 30.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks.
